I’ve been toying with the idea of painting with oils for some time, its a medium I have been avoiding, in case i liked it.
Finding a tutor was not that easy, well it was more that not many tutors specialising in oils in my location. Jerry Smith is a landscape artist who paints from his own reference photos from his trips away and in his home county of Hampshire.
I have had 4 one to one sessions recently, it’s been a great way to introduce me to oils painting, learning the techniques and underpainting with this medium which is quite different from what I have done before.
Do I like it? It’s different and yes I think I do, I’m hoping it will help me loosen up my style a little.
Well I will say this was a different subject for me and for my first real experience in oils, it has taught me a lot, what to focus on, what not to get caught up in, understanding the medium and how it blends, drys and so much more. I’m still finding out more and more every time i put the paint on the canvas………………..
